Project 365 [1-9/365]

One thing I decided to do this year was to blog more and attempt the Project 365 which is to take one picture every day for one year. So far I’m doing alright. Not really taking the pictures I want but I think that will change as the year goes on. I started on December 23rd and would like to go just over one year and end on December 31, 2011. Here are my first nine photos:

December 23, 2010

These roses sit in a vase on top of my desk. I love the look of dried, dead roses. (I’m weird I know.)

December 24, 2010

A few days before Christmas I got a scratchy throat and a cough. I ended up with a cold that lasted for two weeks. I’m still getting over it. This is how I spent my Christmas Eve – drinking coffee and tea.

My grandfather started showing signs of Dementia (he was diagnosed with Speech Aphasia) about ten years ago after his last car crash. We watched my great-grandmother (my grandma’s mom) go through Alzheimer’s and now we’re watching him go through the same thing. It’s hard because I’m losing my fishing buddy. He doesn’t call anyone by name anymore and needs help eating and doing other basic things that we don’t have to think about. Some days are like the terrible twos only with a 78-year-old adult. He watched whatever Marisa was doing right then. I love you Pa. I tell him that every time I see him and give him a kiss on the cheek every chance I get because I don’t know when it will be the last time I get to.

I’ve now talked with Tia for a year. We’ve bonded as friends even though we have yet to meet in person. I promise I will let you know more about me this year. I will try to put more of me in my blog. Every time I looked at my Christmas tree and saw the ornament Tia sent me, the biggest smile spread across my face. It is now safely tucked away with the rest of my ornaments until next year.

Another thing I want to do this year is try more new recipes. I found a recipe for penuche and decided why not. I like fudge and penuche is a brown sugar fudge that doesn’t have any chocolate in it. I think I over stirred it, forgetting that when making candy (that’s exactly what it is) you can’t stir the sugar/corn syrup/water mixture too much or it crystallizes. Guess what I did? It turned out like I suppose it should have but I didn’t like the taste or texture of it. I will, however, try it again and remember not to stir it too much and to leave the temperature alone.

December 28, 2010

FINALLY after a year of saying that I was going to, I started my Etsy shop. It’s called A Crafty Witch and I now have a chance to sell my bags everyone seems to love so much. My mom is selling some stuff too.

December 29, 2010

Writing has always been therapeutic for me and since I started taking antidepressants I decided that a journal might be a really good thing for me. I found a smaller journal I had bought at Barnes & Noble God only knows how long ago and it fits nicely in my purse. I’ve been writing faithfully every day for over a week. It really has helped.

December 30, 2010

I watched Charlie St. Cloud and Granna came to mind. I thought about her a lot that day for whatever reason. She would have been about 82 (I think) on December 27th had she not died in 1985. This is the only photo I have of her on my wall and it’s one of my favorites. I miss her even though I only got to have three years with her. She was one remarkable woman and someone who I am similar to in so many ways… so I’m told.

December 31, 2010

For New Years Eve, like many years before, I spent celebrating the new year with myself. One thing I always tell people is that I don’t make resolutions. I think most people set themselves up for failure with resolutions. Things they can’t keep. Instead I started making promises to myself every year and I’ve been able to keep most of them.

Here’s to a brighter 2011 for me and you. Happy New Year everyone!
